Drink more water

Awhile back I posted about Waterever, an electronic water bottle that helps track your water intake..

Well a few of weeks ago I was contacted by Nadya at Hidrate.me asking if I could give them some input on their forthcoming water monitoring bottle… I was shocked that they found me and happy to offer my input..

hidrate2

I talked to Nadya Nguyen, Co-founder at Hidrate.  She was very nice and we talked for a bit.  I offered my limited advice, limited since I have not seen the product in person, only on their website… Truth be told, I was hoping she would offer me a prototype to test, but that didn’t happen 😉

Apparently they did listen.. one of my suggestions was that the price of $50 was too high… I just can’t see shelling out that kind of money unless the bottle did something like keep my water ice cold (even then it may bee too high)… Then I got an email that the are offering an ‘early supporter’ price… so right now, you can pre-order yours for $37.00!  Just go HERE (special is over) and order… (I ordered a black one)

They also have a kickstarter coming up on June 1st… so watch their twitter or facebook for info

UPDATE:
The hugely successful KickStarter is HERE… right now you an order one for $45

Weight: 379.0 pounds
Loss since 8/12/14 (42 days): 37.0 pounds
Loss since top weight (423.6 on 9/13/10): 44.6 pounds

(Note: on the graph above you will see where the yellow and red lines jump down.. this is when I reset them to make it more effective.. if you leave the lines the same from day one it makes it easy to slack off as there is a lot of distance to gain before you hit a line.. so resetting them lower makes it have more incentive to stick with it.)

So as expected my weight loss has slowed… I was at a bad plateau for a while…  oh course that makes it harder to stick to the calorie limit but I have been able to do it so far.  I have been struggling eating much during the day (breakfast and lunch) and then eating a lot for dinner.. this is not the best way to do this.. am still using the MyFitnessPal app on my phone religiously and using their website as well, www.myfitnesspal.com… I track everything that I eat and drink and often plan out my meal on there first and then serve myself accordingly… This planning helps the most when eating out…

I have been trying to diversify my foods… I have added hard boiled eggs to my diet and some more fruit… but one of my downfalls has been diet sodas… I have been drinking too much of this and need to limit them to 1 a day and increase my water intake. My moods have not been good.. grumpiness from the diet and have had no motivation at all for anything.  Am going to try my best to stay focused and try to not be in a bad mood.. I should be in a good mood since I am sticking to this and losing weight, right?

My health has been good.. I definitely feel an improvement overall… When I walk a flight of stairs I am not winded… It feels like my low back issue is a little better… My Peripheral Neuropathy pain in both feet is still constant and at times severe… I am hopeful that at some point the weight loss will help, but there is a good chance that it won’t help.  I plan to schedule an appointment with my doctor when I hit 10% of my body weight lost (41.6 pounds will be 10%) and have a physical… when I hit 41.6 lost that will mean I have lost 21% of my goal loss of 198 pounds…

No one has said anything about me losing weight but I think it isn’t real obvious to others yet… For me my belly is MUCH smaller… it isn’t hard and protruding as much as it has.. I have been using notches in my belts that haven’t been used in awhile… I have worn a couple of shirts that were too tight to wear before.. so all in all I am happy with my progress so far.

Exercise is still something I need to dive into… there are no excuses really other than me just not doing it.  I don’t need anything to go for a walk, ride the exercise bike, play the fitness games on xBox with Kinex…

No one commented after my last post asking people to let me know if they are reading this blog.. so I guess I am doing this for just me at this point… but please comment if you do read this at some point.

So it has been 11 days since my last post and I weight 406.8 (click on chart below to see progress).. That is 8.2 pounds lost in 11 days… and 16.8 pounds down since my all time high.

chart_1Let me explain the chart above a little… I created this in Google Drive and it replicates the chart I used when I was 17 and lost 74 pounds in a year… that time I had a paper chart that had a red line representing 1 pound every 3 days, a yellow line for 1 pound every 2 days and a green line representing 1 pound a day… I started off that time by only eating a dry turkey sandwich on wheat a banana and a yoplait yougurt every day… if I got above the red line I would fast until I was at the yellow line… not the best way to diet and I don’t think I could do that again if I wanted to.. I also exercised everyday.. no matter what I ran (started out as a brisk walk and progressed in to a jog then a run as I lost weight) I jumped rope, lifted weights and tried to do a pull up… one day I finally was able to do pull ups.. it stated with me at 273 pounds and ended with me at 198 pounds.

As you can see I am between the yellow and green lines… what have I done so far:

  • No fast food
  • Less diet soda
  • Limited regular soda
  • Smaller portions at meals
  • Walking once a week (just under 1 mile)
  • Trying to eat fruit everyday
  • Just being more aware of my food intake

So far so good… these next 7-10 days I will continue with the above and also go back to my water trick to start upping my water intake (read about it here) and I will continue to watch what I eat… I will reduce the number of sodas I have and will start getting ready for my next step.. juicing one meal a day which I plan to start 1/22/14

So.. I have been toying with the thought that I have to just say “that’s it” and not wait for some major motivation that has been absent for so long… not wait to find the right thing or person that will trigger me to lose weight and get healthy… I have to quit waiting for myself to have this inner spark… I have just accept that I have to do this and do my best to do what I can to work toward my goals.

That being said I am going to work on just one health related task right now… I am going back to my ‘6 Changes’ (see those posts HERE and HERE) system and working on my first goal.. water intake.

I have posted about water intake and how to increase it (HERE) and in general I drink more water each day than I ever did before that post… but it is hit and miss and I drink too many diet, caffine free sodas right now… so it is back to the measured trick that I used in that post.  Tonight I will be marking a couple of water bottles and starting again.

Tomorrow I will be hydrated… and I will continue to be hydrated every day… in one week I will look at the next area to work on.. Impulse Control

I got an email newsletter from Richard Simmons a few days ago and it was focusing on drinking eight cups of water a day… I’ll admit that I have been very bad at this for a long time… I bring a bottle of water with me to work pretty much every day, but by the time I am leaving I have only consumed 8 oz or so.. and then when I get home I don’t do any better… I do drink my 16 oz of decaf green tea almost every weekday, but not water.

So I decided to figure out a way to get this working… Continue reading
